This review is from: Insignia® - 1.8\" LCD Digital Photo Key Chain - RedI received this as a thank you gift. I love it and it works beautifully. Like the other review above, there were a couple of glitches. I, too, could not find the directions initially as the instructions were in Spanish. However, I found the instructions online and they were simple enough to follow. I had made up a folder of the pictures I wanted to upload so it was easy to select them. I ran the program and it did crash on me once in the middle of the upload. However, I was trying to upload 40+ pictures at the time so maybe the files were too large. I did not need to unplug the device, I simply started over again and it picked up from where I left off. The device knew which pictures had already been uploaded. I have been successful with it thus far and quite happy. I've had it now for six months. Everyone who sees it wants one too and I can't say I would tell them not to consider purchasing it. The only little peeve I have is that the pictures take a bit longer than I would like as it scrolls through. I haven't checked to see if there is a setting to change this. Seeing all the adorable pictures of family and friends and having the capability of having it with me all of the time is wonderful. I would recommend this photo keychain....

This review is from: Insignia® - 1.8\" LCD Digital Photo Key Chain - RedI bought this as a mother's day gift with the plan to load up pictures of our adorable kids and give it to my mom as a gift, but that plan was dashed as soon as I started using this. The first problem was that I received two copies of the spanish instructions and zero copies of the english instructions. I was able to download english instructions and it seems very easy: plug it in, install the software, copy pictures, enjoy. I was able to plug it in, but that's when things went downhill. It doesn't actually install software, it simply runs a program that is stored on the device itself. It worked great the first time, and I copied one picture and unplugged it to make sure it worked. The second time however, it did not work. The only way I could start the program was to go to the DOS prompt and start it there. Once started, it would copy a few pictures, and then it would give me some error message and I would have to remove it, plug it back in, go back to the dos prompt and start over. This happened a few times until finally the device simply stopped working. Now it just shows a green screen. After fighting with it for an hour, I'm giving up and taking it back....

Olympus D-490 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

2.1-megapixel CCD for prints at sizes up to 8 x 10 inches

Uses standard SmartMedia cards; 8 MB card included

3x optical zoom

QuickTime movie mode

Continuous shooting rate of 1.3 frames per second

This review is from: Olympus D-490 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical ZoomI upgraded from the Olympus D460Zoom to the D490Zoom. The D460 is a fine camera - I was generally very pleased with it. But having owned the D460Zoom for six months, I found two major faults. First, the "boot-up time" (how quickly after you turn the camera on that it is ready to shoot) and the lack of "burst" shooting (the ability to take one shot quickly after another). These two faults lead to frustration when trying to take any type of action photos with the D460. You see the action emerging, but the camera is still booting up; you take a shot, but the action gets better and you want to take another but the D460 says "not yet" because it is still writing the first photo to the media. Infuriating. The D490 addresses each of these problems beautifully. Boot up time is about 20% faster. Timing both of my cameras side-by-side, the D490 is faster (1.1 seconds versus 1.3 seconds, in five trials using the same 32Mb media cards). More important than boot up time is burst shooting. The D490 has a RAM buffer that allows you to take about 1 shot per second in the "HQ" mode (2.1 megapixels with JPEG compression). The D460 requires about 2.5 seconds between shoots in the same "HQ" mode (but the resolution is 1.3 megapixels). Also nifty if you are using the TFT screen to take shots, there is a "gas gauge" showing you how full the memory buffer is as you are shooting.I simply can't express how happy these faster response time made me, especially at this price. I was so unhappy with the D460's sluggishness that I was about to buy the $900 Olympus C3030. Similar to the C3030, the D490 also can take QuickTime movies (though much shorter ones). Another nice D490 feature is that you can erase all photos off a card while the card is still in the camera, instead of having to do the erasing on your computer (I often forget to erase after downloading to the computer, put the media card back in and find it still full when I want to take more pictures). While the D490 lacks the C3030's B&W options it does have the two more important features - the QuickTime movies and the burst shooting (both admittedly not as good as the C3030, but likely good enough for most of us). Beyond the $400 saving, the D490 still retains a much smaller footprint; it can easily slip into a pants or shirt pocket. As for the enhancement from 1.3 to 2.1 megapixels (D460 vs D490), I can't really tell much difference. I took two identical shots both "HQ" mode, printed them 4x6 on my HP970Cxi; they look the same. Currently the D490 is about $100 more than the D460. I would say the "burst" shooting alone is easily worth the extra money. Go and get one! Shoot happy!...

This review is from: Olympus D-490 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical ZoomI almost took a point off because this camera doesn't have a USB port, but I found a SanDisk USB card reader locally for $40. Amazon didn't sell this reader at the time I write this. The card reader is a necessity, a full 16MB card will take about 20 seconds to transfer with the reader, using the serial port you can go have lunch or something while it downloads. NiMH batteries are also a necessity, for the price of a few lithium batteries you can get 8 NiMH batteries and a charger, that way you can always have a set charged up.Image quality is excellent. I was looking at the C3030 and couldn't see spending that much for a few extra features and another million pixels. Unless you plan on printing out 8x10 prints the extra resolution isn't needed, use the extra money on accessories. Printing the D490 HQ images at 3x5 inches they look as good as 35mm prints. I have run several tests shooting the same image using all the modes of the camera and found the best mode to use is normal HQ, under certain conditions SHQ will give you better color reproduction and slightly sharper edges. The SHQ-TIFF mode images are huge and I have yet to see any difference between it and SHQ mode, even in macro mode with a complex object the images look the same. As for the soft setting and the digital zoom, you are better off taking a normal HQ image and using software on the computer to soften or resize. The QuickTime movie feature is fun to play with, kinda like having an old 8mm movie camera. I like the fact that you have to raise the flash manually, if you don't want to use the flash you know it's off when it's down. That's better than having to find a button and look at a display to tell if you've turned it off.The size, price, and image quality make this a great camera to have....

This review is from: Olympus D-490 2.1MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical ZoomAfter purchasing the D490, I found this camera extremely easy to operate and to be the best digital camera for this price, that not only takes still shots, but also MPEG movies. Depending on the quality of picture you require, you can store hundreds of picture on the 32mb smartcard, which I purchased in addition to the 8mb card included in the package. 60 second MPEG movies can be recorded and played back with ease. There is an abundance of flash, editing and viewing features on the camera. The D490 is lightweight (in fact, most of the weight is the batteries) and easy to use, although on the downside, I find that the manually operated shutter closing mechanism to be slightly awkward as the lens has to retract fully before the shutter can close completely. Also, the flash has to be opened manually, and I found it to be a bit fragile, and was always worried that I might just pull it off accidentally....

This review is from: Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Canon EOS / EFAs mentioned before, this is not a lens, it's a conversion lens.I purchased this to use on the kit 18-55mm lens on my Canon Rebel XT. The kit lens on the camera is pretty decent, but not worth buying a ridiculously priced conversion lens... not to mention, buying a nice Canon fisheye is way out of my budget at the moment. With all that said, I bought the Opteka because I wanted the semi fisheye effect for some experimental & skateboard photography, and because I'm too broke from the holidays to purchase a high end, dedicated fisheye lens. The conversion lens impressed me quite a bit. Using the aforementioned kit lens, I attached the supplied conversion ring (metal, which is good) as the conversion lens' threads are too small to fit the 58mm threading of the Rebel XT's stock lens. No big deal, really... screw on the ring, then screw the conversion lens into the ring and you're all set. If you zoom back all the way, you can get a significantly distorted image, appearing like an orb surrounded by dark vignetting (like looking through a door's peephole). If you zoom past the vignetting, you can achieve some pretty decent wide angle shots, with some expected distortion on the far left, far right, and very center of the image... then again, that's what fisheye's are all about. The conversion lens comes with a little hood scoop, but it really doesn't need it, and if you pull your focus back all the way with the scoop out, you'll wind up with two metallic crescents increasing your vignetting. The conversion lens comes in a pretty rigid leather (or fake leather, I really don't know) case lined with a suede-like material. If you're buying this for your Rebel's 18-55 kit lens, expect to see a metal ring in the box. The conversion lens unscrews toward the bottom, and when the bottom section is attached to your camera you wind up with a macro lens. I've played with it just enough to say that "it works," but 99% of my usage is based around the fisheye functionality. If you're looking to blow around $30 and you want to have fun experimenting with your DSLR (or video camera if it fits or you have a ring adapter for it), you can expect to get your money's worth out of this thing. Shooting with a fish/semi fish requires a different type of mentality than shooting normal photos. While fisheye photography can be overdone, they make for really good up-close action shots, nature shots, and even landscapes & experimental work. This conversion kit *will* distort your image, it's supposed to. It's all about using the curvature to enhance your subject.Last note: on some tests from 2 up to 10 feet away, the auto focus functionality seems to work fine with this extension. If you pull the lense back all the way, the vignetting will be a black blurry halo, as the multipoint auto focus will concentrate on whatever you're pointing at (rather than the conversion lens' inner lining). For best results, prepare your shot and focus manually. Very fun conversion kit, by no means professional grade, but pretty darn good. Great to have in the camera bag....

This review is from: Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Canon EOS / EFI bought this converter for my Canon Rebel XSi. For the price, I am perfectly happy with the quality of construction, the included 52/58 mm adapter ring and the overall capabilities of this item. That is what my score of 5 stars is based on. I am not comparing this item to lenses that cost twenty or thirty times as much.Concerning the optical properties of this fisheye, you should be aware that it exhibits pretty noticeable chromatic aberration, however, this can be easily removed with software (I use Photoshop, but apparently a plugin exists for The Gimp, if you are looking for a free alternative). As a result, images will probably have to be processed, but it takes about 20 seconds to adjust and apply the correction. On my camera (with the stock 18-55 mm Canon lens), depending on the focal length you select, the image will be anything from a full circle in the center of the frame to a full-frame image with no vignetting. It's up to you to chose how you want to compose the image. I suggest you search for images taken with this converter on Flickr or some other photo site to see if it is what you want.I have only used the macro adapter once or twice, so I won't review it.In summary, for the price, this converter is good quality, a lot of fun and worth having if you want to obtain fisheye shots....

This review is from: Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Canon EOS / EFThis is a great product. The wide angle option is exactly what was needed for my landscape shots. The fisheye feature allows you to take some really cool shots but the best part is the macro lens. Finally, I have a good macro lens and the whole thing cost under $40.00. This is a must have!!!...

This review is from: GSI Super Quality Hands-Free Desktop Stand for Apple iPad, iPhone 2G/3G/S, iPod Touch, Kindle, Smart Phones, Tablet PC\'s, PDA\'s and Digital Frames Etc. - Multi-Purpose Holder, Sturdy Dock/CradleThis stand has a bigger footprint that I expected. I like that you can place the Ipad either vertically or horizontally but I dislike the fact that it isn't very sturdy once it's in the cradle, so that it wobbles every time you touch the screen. I think it is best used on a table or other sturdy surface to watch videos or listen to music where you are not having to constantly touch the screen. The $6.99 price tag was definitely sweet....

This review is from: Smartparts SP800W 8-Inch Digital Picture Wood FrameModel reviewed: SP800W.Date of review: 2008 DEC 16.Time owned: 3 hours.Purchase price: $89.99 at OfficeMaxPrior experience with digital photo frames: none.Intent of purchase: gift for parents (out of state, age ~60); a "starter" frame - if they really like the concept & function of a digital frame, they can upgrade to a more feature-rich one at a later date.PROsPicture quality is very good. I am no "photophile", but the screen looks great to me, even with the optimized pics (~30 to 75 KB).Solid construction (not flimsy at all). With USB connection, self installs as a drive letter (WinXP). Allows for standard drag&drop and copy/cut&paste functionality to load/offload pics.Optional conversion software (OptiPixPro) optimizes copies of pics for upload to the frame. I.e., it reduces resolutions unusable to the frame, auto-rotates vertical pics for proper viewing.Included remote is handy for pause/go-back/go-forward/zoom during slideshow.Quality wood outer frame.Handy stand holds frame at a nice viewing angle.2nd extra SD/MMC slot hidden behind a cover expands "on board" storage capacity while still leaving the main memory slots open.CONsNo ability to modify presentation order of photos (and I am unclear what determines the order). I.e., it is always the same order each time through the set; (e.g. no shuffle, no date order, no alphabetical, no consistent folder grouping, etc.). According to SmartPartsProducts.com website, this is a limitation of the OptiPix line of frames (vs. their SyncPix which come with software that allows more control over presentation order.)Only 3 discreet speeds for slide show (4, 7, or 12 sec).JPEG is the only photo format that it supports.Warranty only 90 days. (Based on other the scores of reviews that I read regarding multiple digital photo frames, quality and reliability seem to be weak points across all vendors. As such, I bought the 2 extra years of replacement warranty for $20 at purchase). Not designed for wall mounting. No battery (power cord must be connected). This precludes the option of passing it around the room like a photo album.Menu is not intuitive (2 out of 5).No touch screen, nor Wi-fi connectivity. (Not expected for $90).UNTESTEDvideo playback.audio playback.large capacity (>1 GB) storage cards.storage cards with large (> 200 photos).Customer support system of vendor, nor manufacturer.BOTTOM LINE Great value. Rating 8 out of 10 (for my/my parents needs). Based on my assessment of reviews of multiple competing products in the $50-125 range, this is a very good digital photo frame. I am very satisfied with this purchase and expect that it will be a wonderful gift. I will update this review after 6-12 months of use. I hope that you find this review helpful....

This review is from: Smartparts SP800W 8-Inch Digital Picture Wood FrameHave this frame for a couple of years now and it is working great, easy to connect to PC and download pictures, even easier to just stick a memory card in. I'm buying a couple of more for the parents and in-laws....

This review is from: Smartparts SP800W 8-Inch Digital Picture Wood FrameI bought this as a Christmas gift for my mom, and I couldn't be happier. She loves it! The frame was exceptionally easy to set up, and the photos are sharp and clear. I would buy this for myself, and I just might....

Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Nikon D3X, D3, D700, D300S, D300, D90, D

Conforms to APS-C (1:1.5x) size digital imaging format

Actualizes a 6.5mm focal length and a diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees for APS-C size

When fully opened, it produces both high resolution and high contrast at the center of the lens, as well as around the periphery of the lens

Petal type hood and super multi-layer coating help control flaring and ghosting

Offers robust durability by incorporating a rigid aluminum base frame

This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Nikon D3X, D3, D700, D300S, D300, D90, D60, D40, D5000, and D3000 Digital SLR CamerasVery good construction quality, metal focus ring, main body and the mount. with built in lens shade.Extremely Wide on Nikon 1.5X APS-C bodies, can be used on the full frame body BUT cannot cover whole frame, the border of the frame will be black(not only dark). It has shorter focal length than other APS fisheye lens(normally around 10mm), so it produces less distorted pictures that more like wide angle but not fisheye. The distortion becomes obvious only at the border side.Optic quality is just so so, but consider its prise comparing with other fisheye lens. It's acceptable. Because of the extremely short focal length, it is hard to manual focus when you what to use wide open aperture. (but if you use smaller aperture, such as F8, F11, you don't even need to focus the depth of field is wide enough to contain everything.)...

This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Nikon D3X, D3, D700, D300S, D300, D90, D60, D40, D5000, and D3000 Digital SLR CamerasWhat can I say, I wasn't sure I would like this lens, but for the price, it was worth a try. I am impressed. It does what I want it to do for half the price of Nikon glass. It is a full manual lens, meaning you'll be playing with aperture, iso and shutter speed, no sissy auto exposure. It's also manual focus, but the in focus indicator works on my D90. Which past f/11 means the light is always on. At f/3.5 it's soft in the corners, but by f/8-11 everything is sharp from 12 inches to infinity. Also note, this is not a true fisheye lens where it looks like a sphere, it's more like an ultra-ultra-ultra wide lens where with careful composition you can make the image look almost normal or get in close and make some more creative images. Would I recommend this lens, Yes. It is something I won't use everyday, but for the price, it's worth it....

This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Nikon D3X, D3, D700, D300S, D300, D90, D60, D40, D5000, and D3000 Digital SLR CamerasThe Opteka 6.5mm Manual Fisheye lens may be the best master of disguise I have ever found. It is actually produced by Samyang, who market it as an 8mm lens, Bower, Falcon Polar, Rokinon and Walimex also have their name stamped on some of them coming out of the Samyang assembly line. Despite all of this confusion, I can see why everyone wants to claim this lens, Its AWESOME!On a small sensor camera (1.5 scale factor) in portrait orientation the lens seems to capture 170 degrees vertically and 122ish degrees horizontally. I have read that if you use a 35mm sensor and shave the hood, it gives a 175-180 degree spherical image. Although there are a few better lenses on the market for this viewing angle, all of them are 2.5 - 4 times the price. There is minor chromatic abboration and vignetting on this lens, but if you shoot in RAW format they are easily corrected in photoshop's raw import plugin. The only calibration testing I did on the lens I received was focal length testing, I found that my focus range was probably mis-calibrated, as at f8 shot by remote on a tripod the .35m focus was the most crisp for everything. Unless you are doing super close stylized shots, I recommend that you take a batch of test shots and find where yours is in focus, and leave it alone. The only other advice is expect to see your feet in a lot more shots!...
