Fujifilm's FinePix Z90 is, obviously, a digital camera. I won't replay the statistics for you, since they are listed in the product description. Here are the highpoints of my experience with this camera:1. The FinePix uses a rechargeable battery which is included. The drawback here is that you must charge the battery before the first use of the camera. If it used normal batteries, you could pop them in and move on. However, rechargeable keeps the waste down, and ordering your camera to arrive a day or two before you need it will give you plenty of time. Initial charge actually took a little under 2 hours. The charger is included. You can purchase an additional battery if you like.2. Battery life: I have taken this camera along on a couple of short family day-trips and taken somewhere between 20-30 pictures each trip. Between that and taking pictures just to take pictures, I've taken well over a hundred pictures. So far, the battery has held up just fine and not needed recharged. This includes after sitting around and not being used at all for a couple of days. Let's face it: with a camera, you want it to work when you pick it up. This one does pretty well.3. Picture quality: I am not much of a photographer, but I can tell lousy, blurry pictures when I see them. So far, I'm not seeing any with my FinePix. The image stabilization seems to work well, the flash fills nicely, and the "Auto" setting has kept the quality consistent indoors and out. 4. Controlling the camera with a touchscreen: this has been difficult to adjust to doing, but I'm getting used to it. I don't know of a touchscreen control that I've ever been truly happy with, however this one is good enough. 5. Included software: I used the included software a little bit, but not a lot. I wasn't impressed and found the free software I've been using to be just fine. This is partly because I prefer to eject the card from the camera and use the card reader on the computer. I didn't bother learning the new software and just continue to use what I've been using.The other reason I chose to not bother with the included software is what I would deem my one major complaint with this camera: the USB docking cord. It's not a mini-USB or a micro-USB. It's shaped just a little different. This means using the included software for import requires keeping one more cord on my desktop or handy. Too much trouble---I'm already too good at collecting clutter. I'm not sure there was a technical reason not to make the cord match existing cords, but it doesn't.6. Time to shoot: this is my favorite thing about this camera. I pick it up, snap the cover down, and take a picture. My wife has an Olympus that takes slightly better pictures, has a better zoom, and a better video feature. But if our son is up to something cute and silly, I can get two pictures taken before she can take one, and that can be all the difference.7. One fun feature: I thought this was fun, but you might find it stupid. The camera can be set to take two quick pictures with one push. One with flash, one without. So, in those situations where you don't know if you need the flash, you don't have to repose or re-snap. It's done. This is a definite step-up from my daughter's entry-level camera, but obviously you can't expect it to be as amazing as cameras that run into the hundreds and thousands. For me, a dad trying to capture memories here and there, it's a good fit....

The last camera I had was a Kodak and I had that one for over 2 years until this past March I dropped it and the exterior zoom lens got stuck and no longer works which is why I had to buy a new one.There are several specs that got my attention with this camera such as: interior zoom lens (broke 2 camera from zoom lens), touch screen, slim size and it starts up pretty fast, 3 inch screen.Reasons I will be returning this camera: I just came home from watching my son's 5th grade class perform and was excited to upload them so that I could email to family and friends. As I was going through the pictures I was just saddened to see how poorly the pictures came out. Now let me say that I have had cameras for many years so I know my way around a camera and settings. That being said I made sure it was set up for indoor use and optional flash and what not. I compared this brand new camera pictures to my 2 year old Kodak camera pictures and the difference is soo big that I have NO other choice than to return and start all over again. As mentioned above, I was eager thinking I found just what I needed for a good price that will take good pictures. I was proven wrong. After returning this camera tonight, I will be looking into Kodak, Sony or Samsung... I should have listened to my husband!! Works decent outdoors but a $50 c...

Bright, sharp picture, easy to use interface.Since then I've come to like it less and less. The reasons?The frame offers a feature called Shuffle, supposedly selecting pictures and displaying them in random order. I have over 2,000 photos on my SSD card and I noticed that I was seeing the same photos over and over and other photos I was never seeing. I did some tests and discovered that the Kodak always selects the same photos in the same random order every time it is run. Turn it on tomorrow and you'll see the the same three photos chosen first, second and third, and so on. Nothing random about it.Secondly, the frame offers random transitions. One would think that this means that between each photo, the transitions are selected randomly, maybe a fade, followed by a wipe, and so on. Instead, all the transitions are the same; only when you turn it off and turn it back on again does it select a different transition, which it then uses for the entire slide show. (I've oversimplified this;if it chooses wipes as a transition, between pictures the Kodak will show various types of wipes, but it also does this when it is not in random mode).Okay so what's the big deal. Well, figuring it was Kodak, I thought I'd send a polite email telling them of these problems and asking them to fix them on the new firmware release.I got back a stock reply telling me to download the latest firmware. I already had the latest firmware but apparently they really don't read the emails you send them.I sent them another polite email saying that I already had the latest firmware and that all I was asking was for them to forward these problems to their technical folks so they could fix them.I got another email asking me to send my digital photo frame in for "repair".What I had not told them is that my brother has the exact same model and these tests yielded the same results on his frame. So it is the software, not the frame itself that needs repairing.Anyway, at this point I gave up, realizing that although they make all the standard claims about "valuing their customers' input", they are like every other business that simply sends out automated replies without really reading the emails.If these problems are of no concern to you, buy this frame because it really does display the picture very nicely. But I'd like it a whole lot better if I could put it in shuffle mode and know I'm going to see all my photos except the same few over and over....

The early models had small screens and looked more like an electronic device and not a real picture frame. I got some cash for Christmas, saw this Kodak M1020 frame and decided to go for it.It is very easy to use and the display is bright and sharp. The device offers several options for loading photos... USB cable to load built-in memory via computer, USB flash drive, and various common format flash memory cards. The menu interface is unusual and does take a little getting used to, but I'm glad it is not a touch screen. I'd rather use a quirky interface touching the outer frame when needed rather than have to remove finger prints from the screen every time I change the settings. A remote would have been a better option - but this model does not have one. I use the feature to turn the frame off and on at specified times (why display photos all night long). I managed to get the music feature to work - but doubt I'll use it. I paid $130 -- which is pretty hefty in my book. But it is a nice size, looks nice, and offers enough features to make it worth the price. I just hope it lasts.One issue I did have... I resized about 5000 photos to the native resolution of the device (800 x 480) and put them on a single SD card. The frame software had a real tough time dealing with that many photos. Displaying thumbnails would take forever and occationally, the frame would lock up for a while and reboot. I cut the number of photos in half and the reboot problem stopped. But still, some menu functions are still sluggish. Even a few thousand photos seems to be straining the application. And as other reviewers have said - the shuffle feature is not as random as it should be. The sequence repeats and not all the the photos make it into the slideshow.FYI: Kodak released a firmware update (12-2009) -- which I loaded tonight. I reinstalled my SD card with 5000+ photos and the frame seems to be performing much better. The "shuffle" seems to be showing photos I have not seen before, so perhaps that feature is fixed. Time will tell. Anyway - I'm glad to see that Kodak is still supporting and trying to improve the product. Hopefully they will continue to do so.One last thing... My family thought I was crazy for buying this with my Christmas cash. But they have changed their tune. The frame is within v...

This review is from: HOYA FILTER PRO1 Digital UV(0) 62mm 040176multicoated uv filters are strange things to use with digital cameras. they dramatically influence the auto white-balance result.the good thing about this filter is that it doesn't have a huge effect on AWB. The bad thing is that it doesn't seem to do a whole lot to cut haze. It's optically clear,for the most part, and definitely protects the lens, so you have to balance the price against those benefits. But it's not bad. I switched back to my Promaster mc UV filter because it adds a little less yellow-tint to the images, and then I found out that Hoya makes the Promaster filters, they are just rebadged Hoya filters. The two are practically the same.Of course Promaster sells a much more expensive version of mc uv filter and likewise b+w does as well. What ever you get be sure to shoot some test shots of a bright blue sky with light white clouds with it on and off to see the effect clearly, also note the effect of changing the exposure....

You can buy filters for a small fraction of the price of this filter, but any filter, even this filter, will degrade image quality. Without doing any scientific testing, I'm convinced that the extra cost of the multicoating results in less degradation to the image. If I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars for exceptional lenses, I don't want to save a few dollars and mount filters of inferior quality in front of them....

Of the dozen frames at Best Buy, this one was far and away the best.Build quality is very good. The LCD and the faux-wood frame are two parts with no proprietary attachment methods, so you can substitute any frame of the same aspect ratio. The existing frame is acceptable and convincing from a distance. Removing it leaves the LCD with a glossy white border that looks sleek and modernist and compares well to the Sony. Image quality is first-rate. Products in this category are defined as much by what they don't do wrong as what they do well. Kodak hasn't made any significant missteps. The LCD has a matte finish and no glass cover, so there isn't any glare. Color balance is almost perfect. Viewing angles are above-average for a TN panel. The gamma curve doesn't emphasize any particular part of the brightness range, nor does it clip highlights. Kodak's downsizing algorithm is miles ahead of the Sony; detail is evident right up to the limits of the frame's resolution, and curves have very little of the jagged quality of the competing frame. All considered, pictures look lifelike and realistic. Excellence continues to the user interface, which is, by photoframe standards, workmanlike and effective. A relative in her 80s took about an hour to figure it out. Save for the snooze-style button behind the facade that switches to the calendar, clock, and multi-picture views, all operations are controlled by a series of 'touch-lights' on the front of the frame. The button lights turn on when a hand is near the front or rear of the frame. They're otherwise invisible, and there's no physical demarcation of each button. The screen displays an icon next to each button. The menu system can show thumbnail views of every picture on the device at the rate of about 50 per page, and so scales fairly well. There are a few chinks in the armor here. Button responsiveness is so-so. Buttons respond best to a quick and properly aligned tap. Physical pressure has no effect and slow presses often fail to register. The unit itself is a bit sluggish with many pictures, so navigating takes patience. An inevitable point of confusion is that the LCD isn't a touchscreen. Everyone will want to press the icons on the screen itself, to no result. Also, when you first wave your hand near the device, the lights on the frame appear but the icons do not, so there's always a double-tap where you pick a button at random, press it, let the icons appear, and then go about what you wanted to do. The interface has all manner of options for slideshow duration and automatic on/off. There are ports for USB keys and all major flash card formats except for Compact Flash (CF). Because the frame will play attached content automatically, a relative can easily swap an SD card sent by mail for whatever is currently attached with no other expertise required. Short of sending 4x6 prints, this is about as simple as it gets. All considered, this is a well-executed frame that does little wrong. It had the best overall image quality of all the units at Best Buy. If you do buy at that store, have them check the stock at other stores for the same unit. Prices vary by location; the first store had them for $110, but I was able to able to find mine on clearance for $60 a few miles away....

So I'll break this down as best I can. I live in a 2-story, 2800 square foot home. And for the longest time, I've wanted a surveillance system to make me feel safe both when I am at home and away. The Logitech camera system and software does it right, with only a few minor issues, and I stress minor.I have an Apple router but run Windows 7 on my PC; I'm also using the free application on my iPhone. I had zero problems with the software install, even when it came to Window's firewall. I'm currently running 2 indoor cameras and 1 outdoor camera...but, I actually plan on using nothing but outdoor cameras for my entire system (to include for inside surveillance). And that's about the only real issue I have with the system. The indoor camera works awesome and does what it should. It delivers good quality color video and even over the iPhone application or over the web (from Logitech's website), all of my friends all have said, "Wow, that looks awesome!" BUT, and it's a big BUT, once the sun goes down, the indoor cameras are very limited. Shy of the bad guy turning on all of the lights in my house, then committing his crime, the indoor camera is of little use during nighttime hours. And at first, I was okay with that because I'm home at night and it's actually the daytime when nobody is home. But then I bought the outdoor Logitech camera and WOW, what a difference because it holds the very same quality as the indoor camera, but also does a phenomenal job at night. So with that, I'm going to return the indoor cameras and use the outdoor cameras for outside as well as inside. But I still want to give my review on the indoor camera as I've been using it for about a month now.Pros:Color Quality. Again, great color quality. Even using the digital zoom, I was impressed at how good it looks. My wife being the glass half empty type of person commented that you can't see the face of the person all that well. But my reply was - but you can sure as heck see his race, clothing description, weight, height, hair color and most importantly you can see if he is or isn't wearing gloves...hence, you could see clearly where he may have left evidence (fingerprints, DNA, etc).Included 2GB media card. This is a great feature!! This means that if bad guy breaks in and thinks he's outsmarting you by stealing your computer (with the footage of him), you can still revert back to the camera itself to retrieve the footage saved to the media card. Another great thing about the camera media card is that your home computer does not need to be always on to be recording. For example, my computer goes into sleep mode after about an hour of inactivity. So if my computer is in hibernate mode for a full day, the cameras are still recording footage and will sync to my computer when it awakes. For it to work seamless, I just leave the Logitech software running in the task bar (background).Software. Logitech did it right with the software. It was a very easy install, features are clear and I love that you can customize each camera you have on your network. For example, out of the 3 cameras I have, I only want 1 of them to send off text message alerts. Again, it's nice that the alerts are not just a system feature, but rather an individual camera setting. You can also adjust the duration of alerts to save yourself from getting thousand texts. For me, a 5 minute window is perfect, just as long as I get the initial text, I wouldn't be concerned about getting 20 more in under a 5 minute or however long of a window you choose. I also like the way the software saves all of the recorded video. With 3 cameras going, I've been getting a lot of recorded footage. The software not only allows you to use choose a given date and time to research, but if you were to search out for that file in Windows explorer, the software does a great job by saving the footage under the name of camera (for example "Living Room"), then the month (10 for October), then the day within that month. Being a police officer, I really like that if I had to turn over crucial footage (if my home was burglarized, etc), all of the footage would have clear a folder structure and time stamp that would make sense to any other investigating officer.Alerts. This feature sealed the deal for me buying this system to begin with. You select a zone in which if motion occurs, an alert will be sent. For example, although my camera has a pretty wide shot of my living room to include front door, my only concern is if movement is picked up at the front door. Once motion is detected, a text message is sent to my phone. The alert text message is awesome; it says what camera picked up what motion and at what date and time...simple and efficient. BUT, I will mention alerts in the Cons section, so please read on.Camera size. Again, I have both the indoor and outside camera and was very impressed by how small they were. I also lucked out that I have power sources on top of my potter shelves, so I was able to plug in the cameras without any wires being run down walls, etc. And because the camera...

Not that there aren't many, but none of them are deemed reliable enough. Even the Sony's have quite many negative feed backs despite their high cost and positive reviews. So I didn't want to spend too much money anyway to end up with a clunker a year down the line.Costco had this great deal on the Pandigital 10.4" frame with 1GB internal memory, I thought I will give it a try. The coupon would reduce the price by $40 and my cost would be $99. Not bad for a 10.4" frame with 1 GB memory. This frame also had a dark brown/black frame that suited our family room. The display resolution was 800x600, which is quite good. You need a 800x600 at least for those 8". However, as I watch the pictures I see they are bright and sharp. The frame has had wireless adaptability i.e., with an adapter it could go wireless. Costco also has this great deal - you can return almost anything within 90 days for a full refund; enough time to test out a $99 product.The frame is pretty impressive. The colors are great though I wouldn't go gaga over it. There is a brightness control knob on the side. It can take either a USB flash drive or a mini-USB one. So I could use one for the wireless adapter and the other for a secondary source. The random transitions are among the best I have seen even among PC screen savers. The frame can also play avi files and music mp3 files - nice, but not my requirement now. I just want to view our photos sitting and biting dust for a long time. Common, we haven't even seen our wedding photos for such a long time.The menu system is fine; I am not so annoyed as some others are. The remote is tiny. The frame doesn't immediately respond to the click, making you click once more. But, don't do that as it will result in a default action on the screen to come up.One biggie this frame doesn't have is auto-orientation. Many frames boast this, but I haven't see one that can perfectly accomplish the task. So, I have decided to live w/o this feature.The remote doesn't have a ON/Off button which is a second minor nuisance. However, you can turn the frame on with a switch and run a schedule so that you don't have to worry about turning on and off reaching behind the frame always.Overall I think it is a great bang for the buck given the size and features, notwithstanding the lack of Auto-orientation and a remote power on/off switch.How long with this frame last; I only need to find out. This review is from: Panimage PI1002DW 10.4-Inch Digital Picture Frame (Espresso)It took me some digging to find this digital frame. Most frames only permit the slideshow mode to iterate over the picture collection in seconds: ie 5s,10s,15s,30s,60s duration. For something that is mimicking a picture frame that, to me, was too often for something on a desk or nightstand. This one has both 24 hours and 1 hour options. I was looking for 24 hours, but it turns out that 1 hour is really cool. I loaded up 300 of our pictures (very easy with no pc software. A folder mounted as soon as the usb was connected to the pc). There is an option to get a wireless usb to dump to the folders remotely. I didn't try that but the menu appears to have all the appropriate configuration of the wireless settings.Another feature is a screen auto-shutoff for nights and optionally for weekends (ostensibly for people who have it in an office and want it off for part/all the weekend). I really like this feature as well since it's pointless to waste electrons illuminating the living room in midnight unwatched displays.There is a auto shutoff of the screen after a configurable 2,4,8 hours of use but that was not something I needed and meant in the afternoons the screen would go blank.Note that it's not clear whether that when it goes to "sleep" that the next photo in the morning is the randomized/next or whether the screen is off and the pictures are still progressing in the slideshow without displaying. It's also not clear whether the randomized display goes though all options before reshowing.There is a the downside, the menu can be a challenge. There are four different modes, pictures, sounds, video and calendar with picture display. I tried to do it by guessing and gave up and did a RTM (read the manual). To set the schedule you must go to the calendar mode and edit the scheudle. Then leave the calendar and go to the slideshow. When starting the slideshow a "schedule" icon appears temporarily in the lower left hand corner, if you press enter, the schedule is activated to auto-shutoff. The slideshow duration is on the main config menu (keep hitting exit on remote). It's not intuitive but the documentation online is clear.There's many other features I could be using but am not (like sound and video). Note that I called before pickiing this frame, apparently the other pandigital frames do not (as far as I know) have the 1 and 24 hour options on the slideshow. They, however, have a touchscreen to move to...
