This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)I bought this as a present, but soon found that I couldn't part with it and had to buy another. The first unit was dead on arrival, that is the only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating (but Amazon stepped forward and quickly replaced it). The pictures are brilliant. The resolution is excellent. The multi-mode is fascinating. The manual stinks, but an hour or so of playing with the remote supplies all of the answers. The unit does not seem to recognize folders on the memory card, but it does find the pictures in the folders. I have not figured out how to control the sequence of display but suspect it is related to the order that I wrote the pictures to the card. I could not get AVI to work in spite of many attempts with different creation packages. I found that using Outlook to email myself pictures was a quick way of converting attached photos to 640x480....

This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)It is very easy to upload jpeg's to the frames internal memory. Just plug it into a USB port and it's recognized as a drive. Then you can just drag & drop your images from your hard drive or cd/dvd. The frame automatically sizes the images properly. The image quality is very good for a 640X480 frame. One benefit the frame has that many others don't is to set the the slide show duration from 5 sec up to 4 hours. Another feature is the sleep function which can be set up to 8 hours. The only 2 notable cons to this frame are that you can't turn it on/off with the remote, you have to reach behind the frame to a slide switch and the remote is the type with the bubble buttons rather than the push type buttons which I prefer....

This review is from: Genius PF-A01 10.4-Inch 4:3 Format Digital Photo Frame (Oak)I sent the Kodak 7" display back because it had a widescreen display that didn't fit most of my photo's and made the display seem even smaller. After seeing the difference in this display and the other, I would say don't even mess with a screen smaller than 10". Once you get the pictures on this it is awesome. I knocked the product because of poor documentation. I never did get the thing to read a memory stick from my sony camera. It was a snap to use my Mac to load everything from the USB connector supplied. The 128 MB is fine for my needs. Unit seems well built and is attractive....

This review is from: Sony DPF-D95 9-Inch LED Backlit Digital Photo Frame with Remote (Black)I had this item for about 3 months. I even had the timer turn the display off and on for the night time. The display has now burned itself out!!...

This review is from: Sony DPF-D95 9-Inch LED Backlit Digital Photo Frame with Remote (Black)This is a nice, clean, simple frame with great picture and a multitude of settings. I have it set for slideshow with wipe, three-second interval. I also set up time and date to display unobtrusively in the lower left corner. It will play pix from different folders, depending on your mood or who is around. You can sort the display order several ways. You can shuffle. You can zoom. You can show one photo only, or only a clock, or only a calendar, or several photos at once, or -- you get the idea. The box contains exactly what it says: frame and remote that shows photos. The frame has 256MB of on-board memory. No movies or music. The remote is a nice touch and will probably cause me to play with settings because it's so simple to use. The box does not contain cables (other than the power source) or memory cards. The product description does not say it contains these things, but it does state clearly the types of compatible memory cards. Read the product description. (!) I previously had a 7-inch manually controlled Panasonic frame that burned out after 4-5 years. I hated to see it go, but this one is sooooo much nicer! I got mine for $100, with free shipping. That's a great price for this specific item, or for any brand-name frame of this size. I like it so much I will get one for my wife. Before she takes mine....

This review is from: Sony DPF-D95 9-Inch LED Backlit Digital Photo Frame with Remote (Black)- would have been better if its a bit faster when scanning through prictures- Display is clear and crisp...

This review is from: MCS Acrylic & Corrugated Back Poster Frame For a 18\" x 24\" Photograph, Black #22834I wanted to second the review given previously. These are fine frames for 8.99, but they are not worth 18.00!The shipping from Adorama is not justified. Be warned! They charged me 30.00 dollars for shipping when I paid 11 dollars to return ship them back. The frames are fine for inexpensive pieces. They are just not worth the total of both shipping and the price of the frames....

This review is from: MCS Acrylic & Corrugated Back Poster Frame For a 18\" x 24\" Photograph, Black #22834The frame is great, but i thought with how much it was and how much shipping was that it would be a better product. I paid more for shipping than I did for the item. I will not purchase from this seller in the future. They have the same product at super walmart for 10 dollars....

20x Carl Zeiss Vario-Zonnar T lens with extra-low dispersion glass , 1.5x digital extender

This review is from: Sony HVR-V1U 3-CMOS 1080i Professional HDV Camcorder with 20x Optical ZoomI have had the chance to use this camera a few times, plus compare it to some other HD cameras out there in it's price range, and came away impressed by a few aspects, and more knowing about a few others to consider. All in all this is a great little HD camera that takes great pictures right out of the box. It handles really nice, has a true microphone that comes with it, and the lens is great on it with it's 20x ratio. It's slow-motion, though at quality a little less than SD, looks fantastic and is great fun to play with. The camera's low light capability is not as good as the Canon XH-A1 in the same price range, or the Panasonic HVX200 (another $2k+), or as good as the older Sony Z1 (which doesn't shoot 24fps). Looking back, the Sony PD170, which was the low-light standard is about 2 stops better in very low light. But the V1u's low light performance is almost one of taste. The camera tends to give a little more fine grain in such low light, kind of like film in some ways. My guess is that this "effect" is pleasing to some people, who don't view it's low-light grainy issues as a problem. Test for yourself before buying. The display and viewfinder are very nice too. Very sharp, with great readout info, including histograms, making sure every shot is properly exposed. The camera also has a really nice automatic gain control. Much better than the Canons in it's price group. Nice focusing features too. The camera is also part of a larger packaged idea - it doesn't come with, but works perfectly with a portable hard drive (HVR-DR60) that allows you go HDMI out, for much less compressed picture (though most people will think going to tape looks fine) and those files can be dragged and dropped right onto your computer - no more capturing! The LED light is really cool too. Again, these are extra cost. Pros - Gorgeous picture quality in most all lighting conditions. Doesn't require a lot of tweaking, it looks good almost all the time right out of the box. But if you want to tweak, you can. If you want to really tweak, consider the Canon line-up. True 24fps, and true progressive chips, for filmmaking. Great film like gamma curves. Feels great in your hand. Very well balanced. True 20x zoom lens. The 30x digital zoom looks terrific! Nice zoom and focus ring. I was expecting lower quality. CMOS chips have very nice lack of smearing you see on most cameras that have CCD chips (those sharp vertical lines you see when taking footage of sunsets, for example) and the chips have a certain film like look to some more than other video cameras with 24fps features (including me). Comes with a true microphone - while not a $500 Sennheiser, it's better than most any other on-board camera, which is a nice extra. Slow motion, if lower quality, looks really cool (up to 240 fps!). Very usable for video going to regular DVD (not HD) or to the web. Cool HDMI out, with other accessories (not included) such as shooting to hard drive, or a neat LED light. Con's - Questionable low-light capability. If you're shooting a lot of night time shots, dark indoors (horror movies, dimly lit interviews) you really need to test and compare this to other cameras before buying. If you're shooting regular footage, especially a lot of outdoor, daylight, or professionally lit work, it shouldn't be an issue at all. Cost is about $500 more than Canon's comparable XH-A1 (which doesn't come with the microphone). Files that go to the HVR-DR60 HD are .m2t format, which must be converted if you're using a Mac (though still usable and convertible on the Mac). As good as the lens is, I believe the Canon is better, and has better image stabilizing capability. In summary, this is a great little camera for most uses, with a somewhat unique picture to it. Just about anyone going into a store to shop for one can easily compare this to similar cameras and see the features and issues I speak of. They should answer your questions right away whether this camera is for you or not. Finally, a price comparison: For $500 less, you can buy a Canon A1, which works better in low light, has more picture control, plus a better image stabilizer. But it's a little bigger, can't go HDMI out, has no slow motion, and doesn't come with a pro microphone. For $2k more you can buy Panasonic's HVX200, which has superior compression, and solid state capability, and slow motion in high definition (not down res'd, like the Sony). For $3k more, you can buy Sony's new XDCAM PMW-1, which is an extremely impressive camera with a superior picture to any of these cameras....

This review is from: Sony HVR-V1U 3-CMOS 1080i Professional HDV Camcorder with 20x Optical ZoomI bought my HVR-V1U and have had it a week now. I am very impressed with the quality of video with very good light. In low light the quality of this video camera is poor. But after doing hours and hours of research I decided on this model for a few reasons. 1) Size - This camcorder is about the same size as a VX-2000 with the same feel and pretty much the same layout.2) 24p - This camcorder can shoot film in true 24p which is great if you want to give your video that "Film look"3) XLR - This camcorder has 2 XLR inputs to put real good microphones on it if you want and comes with a $2...

NIX 'Azure Blue' Touch Controls on Obsidian Black Frame, 2 x 1.5W Speakers, Auto Rotate Sensor

This review is from: Portable NIX 8-Inch Hu-Motion Digital Picture Frame, Motion Sensor turns frame ON/OFF automatically when it senses you nearby! 2GBI was hopeful that this digital picture frame would do everything that I needed it to do and it does, and more! I wanted a portable device that I could put on my coffee table that could run on rechargeable battery power, and it does. Plus I wanted a display that could display high resolution pictures and it does. The internal hard drive automatically lowers the resolution of images if you try to upload from a smart-card or USB or any other types of memory devices which allows the unit to store even more images. But, if you would rather have the full resolution of the high pixel images than more space, you can bypass the units automatically downsizing the resolution by connecting it directly to your mac or PC and uploading from there. That way, the images are exactly as they were on your computer hard drive. The motion sensor works great by turning the unit off automatically at the desired time length that you set and then turns back on once any movement is detected in front of it. However, when it starts back up, it starts the slideshow from the beginning/first picture again no matter where it was in the slideshow when it went to "sleep". I just keep my slideshow settings on random so the show is always different except for the first picture which is always the starting point...I simply just made it my favorite picture! It also has a neat calendar/clock feature that will display a few pictures alongside the clock and calendar display - the images also change. All in all, the unit is great. It can last up to 4 hours on a single charge or you can have it directly plugged into the electrical socket. It also plays videos that I shot with my digital camera (after I converted them to mpeg4 on my computer). It has a great internal file system, so you can set up different folders and only display pictures from certain folders if you wanted to. It can play music (MP3) that you upload to it and you can choose what music to play during the slideshow. The included remote control has all the functions that you need. The glossy black piano finish does show fingerprints but can easily by wiped cleaned. Overall, this unit is the best digital picture frame I have seen and it is at a great price here on Amazon. I've had other frames that couldn't come close to the resolution, the features and ease of operation that this frame has. I highly recommend it!...

This review is from: Portable NIX 8-Inch Hu-Motion Digital Picture Frame, Motion Sensor turns frame ON/OFF automatically when it senses you nearby! 2GBI came across this frame because I was shopping for a nice easy frame that my Mom could use, and I was intrigued by this Motion Sensor thing. I already recognised NIX since I purchased the 7" cordless version and have been really pleased with it. It was so useful to me because it had the Internal Battery but it also lacked a few things, like Music and Video. So, when I bought this `Hu-Motion' frame, I was so pleased to see that NIX have released a super-convenient frame that is different to the other one, in that it is way more sophisticated, yet easy to use (the key essential for my Mom who doesn't own a PC!).I have had a few days to check it out and load up some pictures and old videos before I give it away at Thanksgiving. The interface is so much nicer, with a really easy Menu system and really nice calendars to choose from. The star feature is without question, the `Hu-Motion' Motion Detection Sensor, which makes the frame turn on or off according to movement detected in the room. You can set the timer to be really flexible - even down to the nearest second. The idea is that I want to load up thousands of pictures and leave it somewhere in my Mom's bedroom, so she doesn't need to keep turning it on and changing things all the time.I'm still playing around with it and finding it so much better than my other frame. So glad it plays videos properly, I just converted some old Vacation videos to AVI and they look beautiful on playback . Overall, the frame just works really well and the Motion Sensor has added a new value to Picture Frames in that it allows you to leave the frame set up for weeks or without having to remember to turn it on all the time.If my Mom doesn't want it, then I know a guy that will!!...

This review is from: Portable NIX 8-Inch Hu-Motion Digital Picture Frame, Motion Sensor turns frame ON/OFF automatically when it senses you nearby! 2GBOverall, the NIX 8" Hu-Motion is a good product, but there are some things about it which could be improved to make it better.FIRST, THE GOOD.The idea motion sensor is great. It's exactly what all digital frames should have to conserve power, since there's no point in having the frame on when no one is around to look at it. The options for how the motion sensor works are very detailed, giving you the option to have it stay on for anywhere from 1 second to 24 hours after it senses movement. The internal timer resets after it detects movement again. The display is fairly crisp with brightness control. An image with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (most standard compact digital cameras) will fill the display completely. Any other aspect ratio will be scaled to fit the frame while maintaining it's aspect ratio. That is, you'll either see black bars on the tops or the sides, but the image will not be distorted. Files wil...

This review is from: 7\" Polaroid IDF-0750 Widescreen Digital Photo Frame (Black)I bought this frame for my wife in August 2007. In October of 2008 the frame stopped working completely and just went black. I called and emailed Polaroid customer service who stood behind their 90-day warranty and offered a refurbished frame for just under $50. The fact that this product wouldn't last more than a year all but guarantees I won't be buying any other Polaroid products. The quality of the pictures and interface were acceptable at best. My recommendation, keep moving and check out some of the competing products....

This review is from: 7\" Polaroid IDF-0750 Widescreen Digital Photo Frame (Black)I received this as gift (it was not cheap either) and a little over a year later it started displaying corrupted pictures. Extensive debug with different picture files, different SD cards, etc. confirmed it was the frame hardware/software itself that was defective. Eventually even the boot-up graphic started displaying corrupted. The unit was left on almost constantly, but isn't that why you buy a digital picture frame? Pretty much the same experience as the "R. Manchee" review. I also will be unlikely to purchase another Polaroid frame based on this experience....

Canon XL1S MiniDV Digital Camcorder

Professional-quality MiniDV camcorder and still camera with 3 CCD lens

16x optical zoom lens (digital zoom to 320x) and image stabilizer

Interchangeable lens system--can use Canon EOS lenses with optional adapter

Three shooting modes: Normal Movie, Digital Photo Mode, and the cinema-like Frame Movie Mode and shoot in 16:9

Record for up to 90 minutes on one battery charge

Interchangeable lens system can use Canon EOS lenses with optional adapter

This review is from: Canon XL1S MiniDV Digital CamcorderThe picture quality of the XL1s is outstanding and it is known to be the industry's leading pro-sumer camcorder. It is also an extremely versatile camera, allowing you to change lenses, vary your audio options (such as connecting to professional audio sound systems), and film in both frame and wide-screen formats. The only drawbacks are that it is quite a leap in complexity and it doesn't have a pop-out viewfinder, which means you're stuck looking throught the eye-piece or have to buy an attachable view-finder.It isn't for your average videographer who wants to just take video of family and vacations. It is actually being used to film documentaries and for professional services such as filming events such as weddings (which is what I use it for). Due to its size, weight, complexity, and cost (especially when you add the optional accessories such as filters, additional lenses and microphones, etc.), you had better be very serious about videography before you invest in the XL1s. If you are, you will be thrilled with this camera....

This review is from: Canon XL1S MiniDV Digital CamcorderJust short of a top-of-the-line broadcast DV camera, the XL1S is an extremely high quality DV camcorder. It's affordable and relatively easy to operate. Granted, my parents wouldn't have the slightest clue on where to start, and for most people this is WAY too much camera for general applications. But for semi-pros and amateurs alike you cannot go wrong with this piece of equipment. All the features you could want or expect are included, and transferrance to analog or to a DV editor isn't more than a button push away. I'm a freelance videographer, and I'm starting a production house and this is the base piece of equipment I use. Too much camera for weddings and picnics, but for any type of video project this is all you need....

This review is from: Canon XL1S MiniDV Digital CamcorderMy camera has been down to Key West for a short film shoot. Not a problem it produced the most vivid clearity one could imagine. Also shot footage for The Discovery channel with this camera last month with pro-qaulity.DVD burns complement this camera this camera looses not one bit of qaulity when editing.Esspecially if you have a good enhancement program youll love the results the Xl1s produces bump up the saturation and the colors jump out....I have shot with about every camera out there and the Xl1s beat em all hands down on weight and ease of use.Picture qaulity is by far the best .500+ hours on my Xl1s and it works better than new.You know, you have to read the manual to adjust for lighting conditions other than that I can produce a great film feel to my work with this DV camera.A must for the person looking to make his mark in the business.Dont settle for a gl2 or a panasonic, you'll know what Im talking about once you shoot with this unbelieveable camera. One thing this camera is very stable, and with practice youll throw away your tripod.....You,Gotta practice camera technique people....If you have the cash this is your camera.....

Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses - Attache Phenom - Available in Various Color Choices

This review is from: Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses - Attache Phenom - Available in Various Color ChoicesI just got these glasses this morning and I've been using them for about five hours. I debated whether to give these four or five stars, in large part because I don't have anything to compare these against (other than my naked eye). The first thing you will notice is the way they warm up the screen. I use a 24" LCD that has a fluorescent backlight (Samsung SyncMaster 245T 24" LCD Monitor) and the difference is best described as going from a fluorescent light to an incandescent. The glasses have a yellow tint, but once I wore them for a few minutes and compared the glasses/no-glasses view, the no-glasses view felt cold and harsh.Second, they are light. As a non-glasses-wearing type, I worried a bit about how they would feel, but they are fine.Third, they fit snugly, but not tightly. This is a total bonus, since your face is probably different than mine. Finally, a comment about the price. I paid $99 through Amazon. It felt a bit expensive, but I rationalized it as such: I stare at a computer about 12 hours a day during the week and about 5 hours a day during the weekend. This is about 3600 hours a year staring at a screen. If they last me a year, I will have paid 2.75 cents per hour of use....

This review is from: Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses - Attache Phenom - Available in Various Color Choiceswas having bad headaches by midmorning almost every day. went to the doctor and he checked me and said my eyes were fine but wanted to sell me some $600 glasses even though i was technically 20/20, but the girl at the front desk is a freind of my girlfriend and told me I should check these out. i bought them online and can say they are perfect for what i need. from the first time i put them on, i was sold. instant difference. no more mid-morning headaches...in fact I'm back to normal and do full day's work plus go home and get back on personal email etc in the eve. dont know if they work for everybody, but they are pefect for me and i saved huge $$$....

This review is from: Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses - Attache Phenom - Available in Various Color ChoicesI work as a Graphic Artist and my days are filled with long hours of looking at the computer screen. I have good vision, but had begun to have trouble focusing near to far quickly. I also began having headaches and my eyes felt as though they were straining. I ordered these based on a review from gizmodo and I do not regret it. The difference is immediate. I felt my eyes relax and my screen looked clearer. If I had to make a complaint, it would be that the lenses give the screen a bit of yellow tint. However, this does not bother me for I no longer have the headaches and/or eyestrain. I would give it 4.5 stars because of the yellow tint, but rounded up to five for default. :) Make sure to read the instructions, they are NOT to be used as sunglasses or while driving! It's been a month and I'm used to the yellow tint. These glasses are great! I'm considering buying a second pair for home!...
