Canon Powershot SD400 5MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

5-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 13 x 17-inch prints

3x optical zoom; 2.0-inch LCD display; ultra-compact design (.8 inches thick)

Enhanced movie mode with fast 60-frame-per-second capture rate

DIGIC II Image Processor provides fast, accurate image processing

Powered by rechargeable Lithium-ion battery; stores images on SD memory card

This review is from: Canon Powershot SD400 5MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical ZoomLet me begin by saying that Canon makes exceptional digital cameras; the best in the market right now. This is because they have always used high quality components since they began manufacturing digital cameras. This one is no exception. Now that I've sold you on a Canon, which one should you choose?First off, let's see if you really need an SDxxx camera, or would be better suited with a cheaper non ultraportable camera. The SDxxx Series offers several key advantages over less portable models:-Beautiful, sleek design and metallic body will wow anyone who sees it.-Gorgeous 2 inch LCD screens-The excellent Dig!c 2 processor (other Canons only have dig!c 1)-Much better movie mode than previous Canons-Small light, easy pocketabilityOn the other hand, there are some significant drawbacks due to the components Canon had to use to get the camera so small:-Few manual controls.-Pictures are not as sharp as those of similar non ultraportable cameras.-The flash is very close to the lens (lots of redeye problems)-More purple fringing issues than other Canons-Proprietary batteries that are expensive to replace-The LCD is very fragile. Read the SD200 and SD300 reviews to see lots of unhappy people whose LCDs broke. Canon's warranty does NOT cover this either. My suggestion? Buy using a credit card that offers a warranty in addition to the manufacturer's. If your lcd breaks, many CC companies will replace the camera no questions asked! If you don't need the ultra portability and flashy looks of the SD cameras, a slightly larger camera with more features might be right for you. I would highly suggest Canon's A510 or A520 if you don't need an SD model. If you still want an SD model, which one should you choose? The SD200 with 3.2mp, the SD300 with 4mp, the SD400 with 5mp, or the SD500 at a whopping 7.1mp?Your first instinct may be that more megapixels is better. Today, however megapixel ratings are similar to Ghz ratings in the computer world: They used to mean a lot, but they don't mean as much anymore. More megapixels do NOT mean a better image. They mean a larger printable image. Unless you have to have huge prints, you simply do not more megapixels. In fact, the 3.2mp of the SD200 is enough for anyone who doesn't plan on printing pictures larger than a standard 8.5x11 sheet of paper. That having been said, there are some differences between each SDxxx model. In order to get the larger 7.1mp sensor in the SD500, Canon had to make the camera larger. Thus, it is around a quarter inch thicker and 30% heavier than the other 3 models. The larger size did enable Canon to pack more features into it, however:Features unique to the SD500:-1/4 inch thicker-30% heavier-50% longer flash range-14% more battery lifeThe SD400 and SD500 also share these benefits over the SD200/SD300:-New "Night Display" feature which brightens the LCD in low light-My Colors feature lets you highlight or swap colors right on the camera-USB 2.0 High Speed supportThe following are shared by all the SDxxx Cameras:Pros:-Beautiful, eye catching design-Great image quality, though not as good as non ultraportable models-New Dig!c 2 image processor -Excellent Movie Mode-3x optical zoom is adequate for most people-Excellent, intuitive manual controls-Huge 2.0 inch lcd that looks great under various lighting conditions-Uses widely available and cheap SD cardsCons (most of these are minor quirks):-Some purple fringing problems-Proprietary batteries are expensive to replace and inconvenient at times-Lots of issues with fragile LCDs-No RAW support-Few manual controlsIf you do choose this product, the first thing you should buy is a larger SD memory card. The camera comes with a 16mb card (32 in the SD500), which is pretty much useless. You should also immediately purchase a case and some screen protectors to protect the LCD....

This review is from: Canon Powershot SD400 5MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoomfirst! :)anyways, this is a great camera. ive had an olympus c-3040 zoom for a long time, and while it takes great (outdoor) pics, ive been waiting for a good small camera to carry around all the time. what i wanted was: 3x optical zoom +, 5MP +, CCD, something tiny, a decent LCD screen, something by canon/olympus/nikon, something not too outrageously priced, AF and MF, decent video, etc.the sd400 has it all! very easy to use - i try and not use the user manual until i have to. i did have to use it to find out how to switch the resolution of the pics im taking though. other than that its really intuitive. i also didnt install the software that came with it, and was still able to get the pics onto my desktop (running win xp pro) easily. indoor pic quality is so-so, outdoors is very nice. lots of cool options. the autofocus area indicator is sweet. very small and compact. like i said, everything i wanted and at a good price. bought a 512MB card and im waiting for my leather case to be shipped and im golden.cons - the 3 things i dont like about it. 1) you have to press pretty firmly on the button to take a picture. too much so. 2) the cover to access the USB port is connected using a plastic/rubber thing instead of a hinge. i never trust those things to last. 3) the LCD screen rendering is a bit laggy, if you swivel around quickly its somewhat blurry.the best case i have found for the sd400 is the IXY Digital 40/50 Custom Leather Case from Japan.thats it, good buy and a good deal....This review is fr...

iView iVIEW-700PTV Portable 7-Inch Digital LCD TV, Black

7 inch 16:9 Aspect Widescreen LCD Screen, HD ready

Built-in NTSC/ATSC tuner for both Analog and Digital Channels

Built-in USB Port and Memory Card Reader for Digital Photo Frame and Media playback

Audio Video input & output

FM Radio function

This review is from: iView iVIEW-700PTV Portable 7-Inch Digital LCD TV, BlackOrdered from Target, arrived yeaterday. The good: Plugged in, set it up and it was easy to set up. Has radio feature, comes in very handy. Also has all sorts of nice ways you can use the tv as a monitor. Has an ATSC and a QAM tuner, meaning you can get the free unscrambled cable channels. They all came in nicely. It worked great last night, both in tv and radio mode. The bad AND the ugly: This morning I turned it on and it just kept turning on and off, I could not stop it or get it to pull in any channels, no matter what I tried. Called the manufacturer, 'it is a software problem'. They would fix it but they charge $15 for shipping, even if the product is under warranty. I called Target and they discontinued it, so no exchange possible. Will have to return it. Final assessment: very disappointing, I bought it for the features, did not expect it to be so poorly made.Update on 03/25/2010: I bought another one of these two months ago from [...] and this one works very well, great picture and the added radio feature is very handy so I'm going to upgrade the rating to a 5. Sounds very good when hooked up to my sound system but you get both system sounds, the sound in the tv speaker does not turn off when you hook up a sound system. Just tried hooking up my cowon 7 mp3 player to the usb and have no problems playing video, audio and photo files, that is really nice! Also tried the sd card from my digital camera and again, works great.Lets me zoom in, do a slide ahow, I'm really pleased with all these functions in a little portable tv! I really like that it has an av in port AND an av out port, something you don't find so much any longer but is very useful. I hooked up my old analog dvd recorder to this tv and can record the atsc channels from this tv through the av out/in. What I don't like: 1)The remote is very flimsy and the buttons stick sometimes. 2) Be aware, the av cable with 1/8" plug that comes with the unit looks like any other av cable plug but it actually seems to be proprietary. I tried several others that I had at home and they do not work with this unit. Called company and they charge $10 for a new av cable, including S/H. So, don't lose the av cable that comes with the unit. 3) Don't like that the company charges $15 for S/H if the unit needs repair, EVEN if the unit is under warranty, S/H should be free in that case. Other than that, this is a well designed unit that has a lot of features....

This review is from: iView iVIEW-700PTV Portable 7-Inch Digital LCD TV, BlackScenario:I bought the iView 700PTV not to watch TV, but in place of a portable DVD player for my 3 year old to play movie files.Portable DVD players are such a hassle to carry and change DVD's. I can put 10 movies in 8GB SD card with the iView.Pros:-Comes with all accessories: car charger, wall charger, carry bag, etc (Viore 7" TV does not, you have to buy those)-Plays about 60% to 70% of movie files downloaded from torrent (legal torrents :)-Very good resolution for a 7" player.-Battery lasts for about 2 hours.-Plays avi and Xvid files.-Even though I did not buy to watch TV, I get about 20 channels here in dallas.-Has lasted a week so far with a 3 year old and therefore looks pretty solidly built.-Very acceptable sound quality quality-Great for the price when most 4 inch personal media players start around $150.Cons:-My main complain is the SD card is not designed to go all the way in. Half the SD card sticks out. The rest of the SD card is at the mercy of my three year old's hands.-I haven't had luck with the two DivX movies I tried. But more testing is needed before scratching off DivX. But anyway more movies are Xvid nowadays, which this little guy plays.-Not a con, but it says right on the first page of the manual that TV channels will not work when device is in motion (leave alone while driving, even the slightest motion disturbs it's functionality as a TV)Bottom line:BUY IT!!! I love this thing. This goes in my GOOD BUYS bin....

This review is from: iView iVIEW-700PTV Portable 7-Inch Digital LCD TV, BlackI ran this TV through all the features and you sure get your money's worth. Including a very nice carrying case and both a AC and car charger. Picture is nice and sharp and there is plenty of sound volume coming from the two built in front speakers. My only real complaint is it will not play MP4 video files which are the most popular. It will play AVI fine with a nice and smooth picture. There are cheaper small TV's out there but they won't compare to this model....

Average Customer Review:

This review is from: Coby DP-767 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame with Multimedia Player (Includes 2 Metal Frames)I read lots of reviews on products before I purchase them. Don't we all? So as I am looking for a digital photo frame for my mom's gift for Christmas, I begin to get swept away by the MANY reviews regarding these frames. "The ratio is incorrect" "The qualiy is subpar" "I cannot program the [insert technical phrase] wih this product". Now I am thinking that my $60 gift is going to turn into a $200 gift, just so I can insure I am not giving my mom a blurry, difficult to work piece of junk!Well, I take a breather, step back from the computer and reassess. Neither my mom nor myself do photography as a hobby. I have a nice 7MP camera whose setting is mostly on "General Use". I have NEVER used the Manual Focus feature. I consider the picure a success if I can either A)Print it out as a 3 1/2 x 4 to show to others or B) I can view it on my computer without squinting my eyes in an effort to figure out what I am looking at.To make a long review endless: This frame is perfect. It supports most memory cards so you can load as many pictures as you would like. There are less than 8 buttons, all of which are clearly labelled, which makes my mom happy. She got it working in less than 5 minutes. The pictures looked just like they did on my computer monitor - my kids' cuteness projected well.:)If you are a camera geek (a fond term, nothing mean intended here), you may want more than this frame can offer. But for those of us who are casual picture takers and simply want to pass on the memories, this item was just right....

This review is from: Coby DP-767 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame with Multimedia Player (Includes 2 Metal Frames)Easy to get up and running, the unit goes into slideshow mode after power on automatically. Picture quality was excellent. Easy to put pictures on a memory card and have them show up. Recommend re-cropping your pictures to 16x9 aspect ratio so you get a full picture. Unit can accomodate std. 4x6 format as well, but will not fill the screen. Small Quirks are: - When in slideshow mode, you can't hit the pause button to ZOOM in. - Very poorly designed stand that WILL collapse after a couple of weeks. - Documentation is lacking (typical COBY style) - No support for QuickTime video popular in some digital cameras - Unit has a faint lingering glow on screen after power down which doesn't go away unless you unplug the unit....

This review is from: Coby DP-767 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame with Multimedia Player (Includes 2 Metal Frames)This product has served the purpose my wife wanted it to. One thing I wish I knew before I bought this item is it will not play mp3s and show pics at the same time. It does have one glitch that is not a serious problem. When the unit gets warm from use, it will put lines through a picture every now and then. The only other thing I would make sure of is that you have some sort of extra external memory card. This unit does not have internal memory of any sort. Jump drives are cheap and easy to use though!...

Philips 5.6-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White)

High-pixel-density 640 x 480 display for sharp and detailed photo display

4:3 aspect ratio for optimal distortion-free display

Auto photo orientation to fit portrait or landscape modes

Create albums, slideshows, and manage your photos

Display and manage photos on memory cards or 32MB internal memory

This review is from: Philips 5.6-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White)The Philips 5.6-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White) is a great value in a relative sense when it comes to the expensive digital frame market. The features are somewhat limited, but the relatively lower price is bound to entice a lot of buyers. I actually prefer the Philips 7-Inch LCD Digital Photo Frame (Black) because of the black frame, slightly larger screen, and USB flash drive compatibility. But if you need a basic starter frame at a low price, this is it.Pros + Great advanced menu functions allow you to control your slideshow+ Very nice variety of slide-show transitions and collage options+ Nice memory card slot allows you to connect up a variety of memory cards+ Memory card slots for Compact Flash I (CF), SD Card, Multi Media Cards (MMC), MiniSD, Memory Stick (MS), and XD Picture Card+ Convenient timer option turns PhotoFrame on and off at the hours you select+ USB connection to your computer (to manage the internal memory),+ Play slideshows, single photo, thumbnails or show clock + Nice looking frame design+ Adequate 32 MB internal memory+ 640X480 display for nice sharpness+ Price is right for an entry frame ($50 range)Cons - Pictures must be JPEG and work best when in native picture format- Photos edited in certain software WILL NOT work, even when saved as JPEGs- JPEG support limited to 16 megapixel and 10MBs files- The white frame isn't as attractive as the black one on the 7 inch model- No video playback- Lacks MP3 music playback for slideshows- No USB port for flash drives- Competing alternatives from Sony natively support other image formats (RAW, TIFF, BMP)- Phillips quality control has been declining; definitely test this within your return period- Many newer alternatives coming to market which use less power than LCDThe frame comes with a quick reference manual and Windows and Mac software on the included CD. The CD also contains Windows compatible picture manager software. For a full PDF manual you will have to go to the website. There's some kind of menu driven help manual on the CD as well. But the truth is you don't need a manual really. The built-in menu is really well designed. Not all the settings are on the first screen, but with some searching you can set up almost everything you need. The frame is listed at a display ratio of 4:3. This means it's compatible with most standard camera formats, including my Nikon and almost all handheld Canon models. Those with wide-format digital cameras will want to look for one of the many widescreen frames to save the step of reformatting. The optional clock display is another nice extra that makes this frame versatile. This somewhat makes up for the lack of MP3 playback. The frame also has automatic orientation detection as an option, which rotates pictures from portrait to landscape. There are also collage and thumbnail view options. This guy doesn't have the native image format support of some of the newer (and much more expensive) frames from Sony. And I'm very nervous about Phillips spotty quality record of late. So far so good. But definitely put this through the paces before your return period expires.Overall this is a good product at the right price. Hopefully prices will come down over time. This unit is worth a look. Enjoy!...

This review is from: Philips 5.6-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White)I bought this item when it was offered in gold box lightning deals for fifty. It arrived yesterday and have only spent very little time with it so far. Here are my first impressions and if anything significant comes up in the next few days, I will update this review. The frame is not widescreen - which is a good thing. You see, most cameras capture pictures in 4:3 ratio and it makes no sense to display them in a widescreen format. Secondly, for the same size (diagonal measure), a 4:3 screen has more surface area than a widescreen format. Finally, you don't need to process your pictures.I had a 16 MB SD card (that came with a Canon camera) which is really useless for me. So, I thought I try loading some pictures onto it and try the frame. I copied some pictures from my computer without any editing. I copied some pictures after cropping them to a random size, but 4:3 ratio. I copied some pictures by reducing the images to 100 PPI resolution. They all looked fine on the picture frame. The picture frame passed the biggest test I was really concerned with.Below are the technical specs:Display size: 112.9 mm x 84.67 mm (4.44 x 3.33 inch)Total pixels: 640 x 480Density: 140 pixels per inchPower consumption: 4.3WPower adapter (2-prong) is small and can support 100 - 220 V and hence can be used in many countries. To me, that is a plus.Frame comes with a quick reference manual, but the full manual is on the supplied CD. CD also contains Windows compatible picture manager software. Unfortunately, the frame manual is in Flash Paper format and a Macro Media Flash application menu displays one page a time. You can print individual pages, but you can't print all the pages at once. I wish they also supplied a PDF manual. They supplied a PDF manual for picture manager software, though.Every time I turned the frame on, it went straight to the menu. I wish it went to a slideshow by default. There may be a way to accomplish that, but I couldn't figure out in the few minutes I got to work with it. I also have yet to figure out how to make my slideshow default, not the one Philips has supplied. You can display a small digital clock during the slideshow. I like that feature. The frame can detect pictures with portrait or...
