This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix F500EXR 16 MP CMOS Digital Camera with Fujinon 15x Super Wide Angle Zoom LensThis is a great camera that takes gorgeous photos at full zoom and in very low light, and I love it - now - but I have been ready to send it back twice. The two most important pieces of advice I have, neither of which are addressed per se in the manual and may very well make you feel you need to return the camera/give up on it are: Make sure the focus is *not* on "continuous" unless you really want it on that setting for specific shots, and be aware that if you put the LCD display on "battery/energy saver" (this is a different setting from "brightness"), when you look at photos you have taken they will look *awful*, and you will think the camera is unable to come up with a decent shot under any setting. When I first tried to use the zoom, or focus on much of anything, every shot I took was fuzzy - until I took it off continuous focus - and once I did that it's been fine, even at full zoom. I took photos all day yesterday at a botanical garden and museum, and they all looked over-exposed and terrible, wrong colors, etc. when I looked at them in the camera. I was again ready to send it back to Amazon. However - once I downloaded the photos to my computer they looked brilliant. So I took the LCD setting off "saver" - sure enough, all the pictures & video looked great. I'm not a digicam newbie, this is I think my fifth camera in ten years. Nowhere in the manual or in any comments/reviews I've read so far has anyone discussed these two points. I'm not a newbie so I persevered, but someone who is a newbie could easily think this camera can't take a decent photo. I take a lot of photos in museums and other places where I can't use flash or tripods. I am delighted at how the low-light photos I took came out, thanks to the CMOS sensor. No blur, and amazingly little noise. The camera really makes excellent use of available light. Wow. I'm not the world's best macro photographer, but I took some wonderful flower shots yesterday. The panorama feature is very cool, but there is a learning curve and I'm not where I want to be yet. I need more practice. So far I've been quite satisfied with the video I've shot, but I haven't done much yet. In summary - you can't rely on the manual for full info, it seems, and that can be frustrating, but this camera really does take gorgeous photos. I have rated it four stars instead of five because of the two issues. More clarity in the manual could have eliminated a lot of unnecessary frustration....
This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix F500EXR 16 MP CMOS Digital Camera with Fujinon 15x Super Wide Angle Zoom LensI am a digital compact camera enthsiast. This is my 6th camera in 2 years. I always search for cameras that i can fit in my jeans pocket, but also that provides great video and photos. My last camera was a Sony DSC-TX9. About the Fuji Camera:Pros:- Size and weight fells very small, amazing that a 15x zomm can fit in such a small camera.- The zoom is excellent.- Grip is very good, more than usual compacts.- Full HD video with optical zooms and stereo are very crisp.- Photos quality with 16mp are good too.- Hundred of functions available, like sepia, b&w, a lot of scenes, etc.- Low light better than excpected for a 3.5 lens. Powerful flash too.- Advanced users will love the manual controls.Cons:- The auto mode doesn't always get the best picture. If you manage to always search for the best mode, you'll get amazing phtots. - The zoom during video takes lot of time to focus, the major problem in this camera. You can listen to the camera engine while zooming...- Menus not as easy for a begginers as in Sony cameras.- 1080 30p video are not the best for high speed movement. I love go karting, and I felt that 1080 60i of my Sony are way better for sports and high speed scenes.- The pop-up flash is in a bad place. Begginers always put the finger in the flash position while powering on the camera. Built in flash would be much better. If you are an advanced user, this camera is very recommended, otherwiase, I would recomend the new Sony TX-100V....
This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix F500EXR 16 MP CMOS Digital Camera with Fujinon 15x Super Wide Angle Zoom LensThe Fuji F500EXR is a very advanced piece of technology. It has everything a good camera should have in a very compact size. The Fujinon 24~360mm zoom is a superb quality lens. The new CMOS 16mpx back-lighted sensor (same Fuji hexagonal pixels technology) is very sharp and works pretty well in many different light levels. As a more than 3 decades professional photographer, I can tell, compared to this little wonder, my 5DMKII seems as an "old" film camera. Its amazing how many functions and presets you have in this t...
