This review is from: Planar PL1700 17-Inch LCD Monitor with Thin Bezel (Black)If you will use this monitor for many hours per day or you need a monitor that will have an excellent color rendition, then you may wish to look elsewhere. Text is not pin-prick sharp - certainly compared to my other LCD screen (Sharp 19") and colours are not even across the screen.HOWEVER, for occassional, non-critical use, I find this monitor to be a GOOD choice blending very good value with good looks and acceptable performance. Would I buy another one just like it? Probably not - but I am not unhappy with having bought it....

This review is from: Planar PL1700 17-Inch LCD Monitor with Thin Bezel (Black)I was issued a Planar PL1700 17 inch monitor for work. This is a monitor that had been used in another office for a few years. It was a great monitor for me for over a year. Then, with no warning, the On Screen Dialog box automatically turned on and started cycling through the choices. A quick Google check showed that this was a common issue with the PL1700, and it could not be fixed. I contacted Planar and was told that, since the monitor was out of warranty, they would give me a $20 towards another monitor. How nice of them - the develop a monitor with an inherent flaw that affects most people one the warranty has expired, and their solution is to sell you another monitor. I checked prices and Amazon was still cheaper than purchasing direct from Planar, even after the $20 credit was factored in.Prior to the OSD box issue, this was a great monitor. However, purchasing this for long term use is a roll of the dice whether or when the OSD issue will show itself.UPDATED:I had switched monitors for two months with the Planar unplugged in the corner. On a slow day I decided to reconnect and the OSD issue had disappeared. The monitor has worked okay for three weeks so far, however I would not be surprised to see the OSD box return in a few weeks or months....
