This review is from: Philips SPF3470X/G7 7-Inch Home Essentials PhotoFrame Digital Panel (Brown)We got this as a gift for my mother in law. As a favor (since we are tech savvy and she is not), we thought we'd upload some photos for her before we gave it to her. There are so many issues here, it is hard to know where to start:1) It is NOT intuitive. I found the controls very difficult to use, and the minimal User Manual was almost useless.2) The main menu icons are just icons, it doesn't tell you what they are. You have to hunt in the User Manual to see what the icons mean.3) It says it has a 480 x 800 resolution. So I used Photoshop and made ALL my photos 480 x 800 or less. They are shown in the slideshow larger than that (the whole photo doesn't fit on the screen) and then it pans around the photo to show the whole photo. This is really irritating. I just want my photo to show up as I have it, the frame zooms in and pans around the photo during slideshow. I can't find a way to turn this off.4) I uploaded the photos directly from my computer via USB cable. I had the photos in the order I want them to display by name - they were named 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. And when I look at the photos in an Explorer window on the frame, they are in the order I wanted. However, when I go into the "album", they are ordered by Date Taken. If you scan in photos, there is no "date taken" associated with the JPG file. Since you can't reorganize the order of the photos in the album, you are either stuck with them mixed up or you have to right click the JPG image (before you upload) go to Properties and assign a Date Taken for each JPG file. Really annoying. I want to reorder them or order them by name.5) The photos on my computer are landscape. I uploaded them to the frame. ON the frame, in the album, the album shows them as landscape. But the slideshow displayes them rotated to portrait! I can't find any way to tell the slideshow to play the photos as they are in the album. So instead, I rotated the images in Explorer, reuploaded them to the frame (so they look sideways in the album), but at least they play right in the slideshow. After further review, this turned out to be some problem with their automatic rotation scheme. I turned it off and on again, and now the slideshow orientation matches the album. So bottom line - this is pretty basic with almost no customization and hard to use features. I would definitely not purchase this again, but invest a little more in a frame that has better features and works the way one would expect (display entire photos at the supported resolution, be able to reorder photos in an album, easier to use user interface). My husband got me the Kodak Pulse digital frame for Christmas and I love it. So much nicer! Also connects wirelessly to online Kodak Gallery and Facebook albums....
This review is from: Philips SPF3470X/G7 7-Inch Home Essentials PhotoFrame Digital Panel (Brown)I was really angry at myself for impulsively buying this when I found it on sale. It was quite inexpensive ($57, marked down from $80-ish) and I've always liked and trusted Philips products. I would have returned it, but decided I was too invested in it after about three hours of fiddling with it.First, the instructions said it came with an alternative frame matting. It didn't. It said the controls were "simplified" and "intuitive". This was what I wanted since I bought it for my mother who is technologically...challenged. Yeah, the controls are simple, but couldn't be further from intuitive if they'd actually tried to achieve that. They are really stupid! And the icons on the main menu don't tell you what they actually represent. A picture of the frame is supposed to represent a slideshow. But you must reference the box to know that. There are no descriptions of the icons on the screen. The controls also feel flimsy and jerky. The power button is about the size of small pencil eraser. Not gonna be easy for my mom to figure that one out. She will be very lucky to ever work this on her own. It's slow loading pictures. It says it has 128 mb of internal memory, but according to my computer, only about 63 mb were accessible. Probably because of the pre-loaded generic travelogue pics they have on there. Couldn't figure out how to get rid of them. Perhaps worst of all, the SD sticks out of the side of the frame. It doesn't even go all the way into the slot with a click and release feature. Because of its fit, you have to unplug the frame to remove the disc. It's a very strange design feature and completely ridiculous. On the positive side, the picture quality is nice, it has an alarm clock and calendar, and the frame itself is a pretty shade of brown (kind of a cherry wood). Will fit in with most decor.I would strongly recommend looking around before picking this one up. Just because its Philips, doesn't mean it has Philips quality....
This review is from: Philips SPF3470X/G7 7-Inch Home Essentials PhotoFrame Digital Panel (Brown)I received this frame as a gift not too long ago and was a little skeptical at first. I wasnt really in the market for a digital picture frame but after opening it up and messing around with it for a while I was impressed with how easy it was to set up. I can store lots of photos directly on the frame with its onboard memory or use a memory card for multiple storage options. The controls on the back of the fra...
