This review is from: Pandigital PAN8008DW Photo Mail 8-Inch LED Digital Picture Frame (Black)We wanted a digital photo frame that would receive new photos we sent without the need of any computer or internet connection and this one seemed to fit the bill exactly. Intended for use by an elderly relative who has no computer or technology skills at all we were attracted with the units marketing copy that said, "Simple, Plug-and-Play Operation ... One-Touch Viewing: With a single touch, your family and friends can enjoy all your adventures and important moments in pictures--instantly..."However, when we received it the reality was different. To get new photos to show up the user must, each time, navigate a menu system using a tinny remote control and download the emails. Then they need to 'back out' of the email system and restart the frame's slide show using the same tinny remote control. It is not one touch, and it is not instant, and it is not simple. That said, Amazon was amazing as usual with delivery and the return process was fast and smooth. Thanks Amazon!...

This review is from: Pandigital PAN8008DW Photo Mail 8-Inch LED Digital Picture Frame (Black)Whoever designed this is a complete idiot. The idea, on paper, is good: like the Kindle, it pulls your photos off their servers via the AT&T cellular network. This means you don't need to connect it to a PC or even insert any memory cards, although both PC connection and memory cards are supported. With an additional wi-fi adapter, you can also use wi-fi to download photos to this digital photo frame.I bought mine from my local Costco and have been extremely frustrated by how poor the user interface design is. It's a pity, because the frame itself is a decent one, with 800x600 resolution and rich colors and good brightness. I really didn't want to give it 1 star only, but given the amount of stress I've experienced trying to use it, I think that's what it deserves.First off, it takes forever to connect to the server via the AT&T Edge network. That's supposed to be a high-speed (it's 2G or 2.5G as implemented on AT&T's network, depending whom you ask), but connecting and downloading pictures are painfully slow. What makes the experience unbearable is, the overall performance and responsiveness of the Pandigital frame are abysmal. After you select the download option, for instance, nothing happens for a while, so you're not sure if the frame registered your command or not. This lack of responsiveness is exacerbated when you use the credit-card-sized remote control. It uses IR, but it's not clear to me where the IR port is located on the frame itself, so I'm never sure where to point the remote. No matter where I point (including the sides and back and top), the remote is extremely unresponsive. The frame itself only has a few buttons and, as the manual explains, does not allow you to access all functions. The frame can be used horizontally or vertically. Unfortunately, the kickstand is very insecure. Several times, when I tried to adjust the frame's location, the kickstand sprang back to the storage area so I dropped the frame by accident. Extremely annoying. When it's standing, you'd better not touch it at all, or it could fall over backwards. Also, when the orientation is changed, the frame sometimes doesn't recognize the new orientation, so I'll have to rotate it a couple times to make the new orientation register. The frame has 1GB internal memory and supports popular memory card formats (although Memory Stick Duo users must use an adapter, not supplied with the frame but usually supplied when you buy a Memory Stick Duo card). It also has built-in clock (with alarm) and calendar. Like I said, the display is quite good, although like pretty much all digital frames on the market today, it is AC-powered only, no battery option. The frame comes with a certain number of mail photo downloads (each picture download counts as one download). Mine has 300, and after 300 photo downloads, I'd have to buy a "photo mail package" from Pandigital. Not sure how much those packages cost.In short, this feels like a beta-version product that needs some serious work. The lack of built-in wifi (an adapter must be purchased) is also annoying. I'm very disappointed -- and glad I bought it from Costco which has a great refund policy....

This review is from: Pandigital PAN8008DW Photo Mail 8-Inch LED Digital Picture Frame (Black)Be prepared to sit on the phone with customer service for hours not to reach anyone. Limited number of photo downloads after that you have to buy a photo package which they don't tell you about or give you the pricing before purchasing the product. As it turns out their offices don't even really know the pricing on the packages, but what I was told was $50 for every 700 photos. Product itself is difficult to use. The remote has a major lag time and very small buttons. The idea is great but if they are going to charge extra for photo packages when you already paid a premium dollar on the frame, to me it is not a good buy. I hear better things about the Kodak Pulse if you are looking to get a digital frame with photo mail....
